CASHPCR is the organization that represents the families and friends of the residents of the Southern California developmental centers.
CASHPCR is most strongly opposed to the closure of Lanterman Developmental Center. Lanterman serves nearly 400 residents with severe and complex medical and behavioral conditions, who require professional expertise as determined by their Individual Program Plan per the Lanterman Act.
This expertise is currently not available in the community setting on a scale sufficient to care for the Lanterman residents. Indeed, the community options for all individuals with a developmental disability are currently under great stress due to the financial crisis in our state which has recently led to severe budget cuts at many levels of service.
The transfer of these individuals from their homes at Lanterman to a fragile community system would gravely impact their ability to live their lives to their potential, and threaten the ability of others to do the same.
